A wee bit about me

My name is Robbie and I am a mother of four grown sons. The boys dad and I have been married for twenty-eight years and I am still trying to find out where all that time has gone!

Over the years we have enjoyed camping as it was the most affordable way to holiday with small sons. Our most favorite spot to be is Monck Provincial Park on Nicola Lake in Merritt, BC.

Merrit holds some family history for myself as my great-grandfather (my dad's, dad's father) Martin Luther Grimmett, was a very prominent lawyer in town.  The Grimmett house still stands on Main Street and the street I always have to visit, Grimmett Street, is just off one of the main roads that runs through Merritt.

Since my husband and I both retired in January of this year, I have renewed my interest in the birds that come to visit my backyard feeders and I have done some birding while in Merritt a couple weeks ago and last week I visited the George Reifel Bird Sanctuary with my very good friend and fellow birder, Kim aka Ladywoodpecker on Twitter. I was thrilled with some first time sightings for myself such as a Cedar Waxwing fledgling and a Western Tanager at Nicola Lake and then the Sandhill Crane and Sandpipers at the sanctuary.

My garden is also a place where I love to get lost in and relax. My husband and I have been renovating a 40 year old home for the past three years, inside and out. Last year we built our deck and this year we put in a pond. I have six goldfish to help with algea control but I have focused more on the aquatic plants. There is still so much left to be done but as my thought has always been, gardening is always a work in progress!

So, this having been my very first blog, I know I will have much more to write about with the garden continuing to grow and the different varieties of birds that I will either see in my own yard or on one of our many camping trips to Merritt or local day trips I take alone or with Kim.

  5. Lovely Western Tanager. I sure don't get those in my backyard. Your Sandpiper photo appears to be a Lesser Yellowleg.
